Purple Passion in Awareness
Ribbons
The scope and reach of charitable organizations these days is
nothing short of amazing. In recent years, there has been a
drastic increase in the awareness most of us have major
charitable organizations. Have people in general become more
sensitive, more aware of the meaningful causes around them?
Yes, people in general have become more sensitive, but this is
not just a result of the progress of humanity. Most of all, it
has to do with how most charitable organizations are marketing
themselves.
These days, charitable organizations have become savvy in the
way they market themselves. With so many well-meaning and
well-deserving charitable organizations and non-profit groups
these days, each has a greater responsibility to reach
potential donors. In short, there has been a proliferation of
legitimate and deserving charitable organizations and
non-profits in recent years, which means that these
organizations have to work harder than ever before to survive
and be effective, working charitable organizations.
One of the most effective and prominent ways that charitable
organizations have gotten the message out has been relatively
simple: awareness ribbons and the like have brought a whole new
wave of awareness to many deserving charitable organizations.
There is a genuine purple passion in awareness ribbons, and it
seems that nearly ever well known charitable organization or
cause has adopted some kind of ribbon or bracelet or other
accessory that donors and concerned individuals can wear to
showcase their dedication to the cause. Ribbons are not only
used to denote dedication to a specific charitable
organization, but a whole cause or movement in general. Here is
a brief overview of the most common type of awareness
ribbons.
Yellow Ribbons: These have most often been used as a
sign of support for troops during an international conflict or
war. Yellow ribbons have become a mainstay in American culture.
You can find yellow ribbons tied around trees, street light
poles, and decorating the façade of many houses. Plastic yellow
ribbon decals are stuck on the windows of cars. Some decorate
their homes and windows using big plastic ribbons. Yellow
ribbons grace all kinds of products: t-shirts, mugs, pens,
visors, caps, and many other places. Yellow ribbons have also
traditionally been used to denote a lost child or in any moment
of national grief, such as in tribute to the victims of a large
and devastating event, such as natural disasters or a terrorist
attack.
Pink Ribbons: Pink ribbons have become some of the most
visible rallying symbols in the fight against breast cancer.
They are used to denote support of the battle against breast
cancer and support of breast cancer foundations that are
dedicated to fighting breast cancer. Like yellow ribbons, pink
ribbons have become ubiquitous in recent years, gracing mugs,
t-shirts, pens, and even household products such as special
edition toasters and blenders. Pink ribbons have become an
important rallying symbol that can be seen worn by thousands
during breast cancer runs and walks.
Red Ribbons: The color red has also been a powerful
symbol that is used to denote support for a variety of causes.
Red colored ribbons have been used to denote support for many
important prominent causes, including AIDS victims or HIV
sufferers, support for substance and drug abuse causes,
including DARE, MADD and other prominent organizations.
This is just a sampling of how ribbons and other awareness
objects have played an important part in recent years in
bringing awareness to a diverse number of important and worthy
causes. Wearing a ribbon can speak volumes. Besides honoring or
offering support to victims of natural disasters, wars and
disease, these colored ribbons can also be a good way to raise
money for these worthy causes as well.
